VITAL GOAL: Corey McAlpin on his way to kicking an important goal for the Shoalhaven Sharks during their victory over Sapphire Coast yesterday at the Nowra Showground.Local boys win major competitionTHE Shoalhaven Sharks under 14s showed the strength of the local Australian Football competition yesterday when they won a prestigious competition at the Nowra Showground. The Sharks defeated Sapphire Coast in yesterday’s final of the under 14s section of the inaugural South Coast Junior Representative Carnival. The final score was 7-4 (46) to 6-4 (40).The Sharks took control in the first quarter and kicked what would be three vital goals. However the strong Sapphire Coast side refused to submit and pushed the local team to the limit. At one stage the Sharks held a five-point lead and it looked like the Sapphire Coast side was coming home strongly. However the local side, much to the pleasure of the home crowd, clung to victory.Players including Adam Ison, Harry Harnwell, Jonty Kelly, Corey McAlpin, Dale Lovatt and James Eagleton all played well but the result was a true team effort and all members of the side should be congratulated. The two teams had clashed the previous day when the Sharks were defeated 9-4 (58) to 3-3 (21).Shoalhaven also had a team in the under 12s competition of the two-day carnival but despite the players’ best efforts the side could not win any matches. The under 12s competition was won by the Illawarra side while Sapphire Coast won the under 17s.Shoalhaven was not represented in the under 17s.The two Shoalhaven teams took on teams from Sapphire Coast, Illawarra Juniors and the Central West/Northern Riverina.More photos will appear in Wednesday’s Junior Sport Tomorrow’s Champions section. This story Administrator ready to work first appeared on Nanjing Night Net.
