Gold, silver and bronze for Nowra junior athletes

GOLDEN JUNIORS: Jason Huntsman, Arron Spiessberger-Parker, Tim O’Shea (absent – Jake Myors) teamed up to win gold in the under 18 division.In the Willandra Junior Athletics NSW State Cross Country Championships, hundreds of young athletes braved the cold. The freezing conditions at Willandra course in Cambewarra last Saturday didn’t stop some great performances by the Nowra Athletics Club.Athletes from across the state came to be tested on the challenging Willandra course. The following junior athletes from Nowra Athletics Club put in some outstanding performances on the day competing against high quality fields and winning an individual State Medal.In the Under 12 Boys 2km race Jesse Buckham won a State Country Bronze Medal. This was Jesse’s first experience at state championship level and he is enjoying the challenges of racing with Nowra Athletics Club.In the Under 12 Girls Jade Mustapic won an individual State Silver medal. Jade was tested against the same high level competition with the winner being a silver medallist in the National Championships last year.The Under 16 Boys 4km event Jye Edwards claimed a NSW Country Bronze in a hotly contested event. This was particularly impressive as Jye was competing against older athletes and after a string of impressive recent performances Jye has shown he is an athlete to watch in the future.Michaela Quinn continues to shine on the state stage winning a bronze medal in her Under 18 Championship event. Michaela has had some setbacks with recent illness so this was a particularly tough race for Michaela given the conditions on the day and an impressive effort.In the Under 18 Boys State 6km Championship Arron Spiessberger-Parker won a silver medal in the elite field including runners from interstate. Arron has continued his recent great form and is looking forward to his upcoming races.In the team events the Under 12 Boys, Kye Jones, Alistair Clark, Jesse Buckham and Jack Batson claimed a silver medal and under 12 Girls, Sophie Phillips, Tara Mustapic, Summer Hall and Jade Mustapic won a bronze medal.The Under 16 Boys, Jye Edwards, Gus Frank, Mitch Cunningham and Jed Frank won Silver.The Under 18 Boys had big golden smiles after their presentation winning their team event. Arron Spiessberger-Parker, Jason Huntsman, Tim O’Shea and Jake Myors all put in a great effort in their 6km race and were justly rewarded with a gold team medal.In the Fun Runs the smiles on the kids and parents said it all, with plenty of action in the 1km, 2km and 4km Fun Runs.The Under 9 Girls 2km Fun Run, India Seccombe won bronze medal. India also ran in the Under 12 State event prior to the Fun Run a huge effort, congratulations India.Nowra Athletics Club is a renowned family and friendly club. The event was an obvious display of this from the Norwood family all enjoying the events on the day and the first three places in the 1k going to the Norwood children.Keeghan also ran the U/12 state event, seven-year-old Stirling and nine year old sister Eilish.
