OAM: Warrant officer Anthony Wills was among four naval personnel featured in the Queen’s Birthday Honours.AMONG this year’s Queen’s Birthday Honours list were a host of people who live and work in the Shoalhaven as well as former Shoalhaven residents.Among the defence awards were four naval personnel with links to the Shoalhaven.Warrant Officer Anthony Wills, who is based at HMAS Albatross, received an OAM for his work with the Sea King helicopters.“This award though given to an individual really is the result of the whole team,” he said.“I brought in a different way of thinking and doing things. I was honoured to receive this award, but at the end of the day I’ve just done my job.”Lieutenant Commander Clifford Kyle was awarded the Conspicuous Service Cross for his involvement in achieving an increase in flying hours for the Seahawk helicopters.Warrant Officer Debbie Butterworth was singled out for her involvement in logistics management, receiving an OAM. Lieutenant Commander Barry Ford was awarded a Conspicuous Service Medal for his work in anti-ship missile defence.South Coast medical specialist Professor Phil Clingan has also been honoured with an OAM for his contribution to cancer care.One of Professor Clingan’s career highlights was his key role in changing the way bowel cancer was treated.He was the chief investigator in a team from 120 centres worldwide involved in groundbreaking study involving Illawarra patients in 1998.A former Shoalhaven police officer was presented with the Australian Police Medal.Superintendent Desmond Organ, currently Hunter Valley Local Area commander at Muswellbrook, became a constable in 1976 in Sydney before spending time at Sussex Inlet and Nowra police stations.Superintendent Organ was awarded the National Medal in 1990, first clasp National Medal in 2003 and the NSW Police Medal in 2003.
