Mighty Lions rule the footy jungle

NICE PASS: Gerringong’s Brad Davidson pops a pass just in time.THE Gerringong Lions remain Group 7’s only undefeated team after downing the Jamberoo Superoos 44-10 at Michael Cronin Oval on Saturday.First half doubles to Brad Davidson and Rixon Russell allowed the Lions to build a 24 point first half lead that Jamberoo could overcome. The Lions opened the scoring in what is becoming a regular occurrence, Russell crossing in the early minutes, backing up a Michael Brown break, with Joel Roberts converting to make it 6-nil.The Lions doubled its lead soon after thanks to some luck.A Pat Cronin bomb was allowed to bounce by Jamberoo and they paid the price when the ball hit the crossbar, bounced and fell into the hands of Davidson who bagged his first for the day.Roberts again converting to make it 12-nil.Cronin’s boot brought the visitors undone again not long after, another towering bomb allowed to bounce and Davidson had his second in almost identical fashion to his first and Roberts’ third conversion made 18-nil.The score didn’t stay that way for long, the Lions kept the ball alive through a number of hands before Ryan Staples broke through the line to find the ever present Russell and give the half his second for the day and Roberts’ boot making the score 24-nil.Only Nathan Ford being ruled to have committed a double movement stopped the Lions from having an even larger lead at half time.Jamberoo had the slimmest glimmer of hope early after in the second half when a Gerringong error giftED them field position and replacement hooker Daniel Wright burrowed over with Matt Coehlo converting to make the 24-6.Any sense of A Jamberoo comeback was soon extinguished though when Matt Fownes dived on A grubber to score, with Robert’s knocking over the sideline conversion to make it 30-6.The Lions then put together the try of the day when Kal Collins produced a flick pass to put Taylor Hudson in some space and the winger fending off one defender before chipping over the top and out running two more to score and make the score 34-6.The Lions were in soon again, Roberts barging on to an inside ball and linking up with Elliot Stewart to put the centre away to make it 38-6.Jamberoo put some respectability into the score line when replacement Josh Cuthbert crashed over to make the score 38-10.However, the Lions weren’t done with Stewart crossing again and Roberts rounding out the scores with another conversion. In a solid team performance, Davidson, Russell and Cronin were Gerringong’s best while Willie McDonald, Phil Webster and Wright did all they could for Jamberoo. This story Administrator ready to work first appeared on Nanjing Night Net.
