IT’S shaping as the biggest day in Canberra rugby since 2004. And four Dirty Reds will take centre stage.

Boyd Newby (pictured) Mik Webber, Peter Altona and Simon Hegarty will don the Brumbies Provincial rugby strip and tackle a Police Force XV in the hours prior to an anticipated Super 15 clash at Canberra Stadium.

A crowd of around 20,000 is expected to converge on Canberra Stadium as the Brumbies search for a Super Rugby finals berth – something that’s evaded them since they last won the title in 2004.

Before the main course, however, comes the entrée. The aforementioned quartet will act as pre-match entertainment for the crowd.

Newby, Webber, Altona and Hegarty each earned call-ups to the provincial team via impressive performances for Monaro at the Brumbies Country Championships over the June long weekend.

Pitting their skills against the best in southern NSW seems straightforward compared to lining up against seasoned law enforcers, who are partial to a game of rugby, on the Canberra Stadium turf.

Saturday’s pre-Super Rugby match is scheduled to get underway at 1pm.
