LAST week, some very talented young sports people were the latest recipients of funding from the Ray Harvey Sports Foundation.

In the latest round of funding, the Ray Harvey committee gave away $3510 to a range of sports, including netball, Goulburn Pony Club, hockey, triathlon, canoeing, AFL, football and squash.

The Chair of the Ray Harvey Sports Foundation, Cr Margaret O’Neill, said the Foundation had been running for nearly 30 years and had given away more than $100,000 to local up-and-coming athletes.

Twelve-year old Hannah Cudaj from Goulburn Netball spoke to the gathering, saying the money allocated to the Netball Association would be used to hire the U/13 side’s marquee at the State Age Championships.

“We are all very excited to have the chance to represent our great city, and appreciate the generosity of the Ray Harvey Sports Foundation in enabling us to do so,” Hannah said.

“This grant money will contribute to the hiring of our tent in the infamous tent city. We look forward to having a place to store our belongings, meet family and friends, and debrief and plan for our matches.”

The Foundation is named after the late Ray Harvey. Ray contributed to many sport and community activities throughout the Goulburn community.

The purpose of the Foundation is to provide support to promising young sports people, helping them financially with coaching fees and providing assistance with costs associated with competition experience outside the Goulburn Mulwaree area.
