Morkel, who has a batting average of 27 and 161 wickets in 194 career Twenty20 games, has been a key member of the Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League.

He joins fellow South African Herschelle Gibbs in the Scorchers squad.

The Scorchers also announced the signing today of batsman Adam Voges and wicket-keeper Tom Triffit.

Perth boy Voges played in last summer’s BBL for the Melbourne Stars, while Triffit has recently moved to WA from Tasmania.
