AFTER nigh on 30 seasons in the game, Swans veteran Steve Armstrong notched his 400th match in Goulburn colours at Kenmore Oval on Saturday.
The evergreen midfielder has been an outstanding servant for the Goulburn Hawks, and in recent years for the Swans, and was honoured by teammates and spectators with a specially-made banner, choice words of support and post-match drinks on the house.
The wily footballer refused to let the occasion get to him however, insisting a team victory was the number one priority. Armstrong will next week surpass Wendell Rosewarne’s record and become the most-capped Australian rules footballer in Goulburn’s history.
